Any time you make a decision to do something worthwhile with your life that goes above average and common thinking, people that suck just pop up! People you never thought sucked, suck! Friends, family… no one is immune to becoming a sucky individual. It kind of sucks. It is a reality though.
When you’re trying something new with your life that’s expanding your person, it’s uncomfortable and it’s pretty damn scary. It takes a lot to continue moving ahead when you’ve got some natural inner doubts of your own. Even though you’ve made the decision to leap and you had peace about it, even excitement and joy about it, you’re still human. You still have fear and doubt and both of these emotions persist as you persist. The challenge in achieving something new and worthwhile is not only the challenge of actually achieving it, but conquering your own doubting mind along the way.
Wanna know what doesn’t help?
“Why are you doing that?… Are you crazy?… This is stupid… It’s not gonna work… You should do something else… You’re an idiot… You really think this is going to happen for you?… Go back to school… Ask the college for your job back…”
To all those who have said these things to myself and my fellow dreamers I have only this to say,
“It’s hard enough to do something you would never have the valorous spirit to do. You’re an asshole and your opinion doesn’t matter. I love you but I don’t like you. Blessings.”
And with that, if you’re to follow your heart and do what seems crazy but will inevitably leave you fulfilled, you have to cut ties with people that have already freely cut the ties themselves by their actions. You’re holding onto them. It’s time to let them go. Even if it’s mama.
“Toxic people attach themselves like cinder blocks tied to your ankles, and then invite you for a swim in their poisoned waters.”
